2. Ruler Pen

“Beg Borrow or Steal”, that’s what I used to get to hear from my class teacher when I used to forget to bring my pencil box to class. Like most diligent girls in school I used to carry a sharpner, eraser, pens, pencils, and ruler. God forbid if you forgot a ruler and had to draw some lines! Like we tend to carry extra pencils or pens, but never rulers! Well this Ruler Pen is a helpful answer. Too bad no one thought of this during my school days. How To Shed Pounds The Totally Natural Strategy

An Old Method For Detoxification and Weight ControlThere has practically got to be hundreds of different kinds of products of all kinds for slimming and fat loss. Acquiring quick results is a result of marketing, and every new product that arrives tries to beat the other in terms of speed. But, there is a method that we all have most likely learned about, and it is very old. In fact, fasting shows up in some of the oldest books that still exist, today. We should admit, though, that obesity is a relatively recent social issue. If you want to talk about longevity and dependability of method, then you cannot dismiss fasting so simply. Fasting can be very potent and effective, but it must be correctly implemented.

If you would like to see extraordinary results, then use fasting responsibly with proven approaches to eating and physical exercise. For instance, you will find superb health benefits when you eat a diet that makes your body much more alkaline. Such a diet consists of root and leafy variety of produce and fruits. When you eat your veggies, you can have them both cooked or raw. Whenever cooking veggies, the best thing to do is steam them for the reason that they hold more of their nutrition. As for exercise, there are distinct varieties of exercise that are soothing yet certainly fantastic for your body. You can do commonly recognized exercises that employ the weight of your body. Other proven forms of work outs are yoga exercises and Pilates, and you will find excellent results with those, alone.

As you can estimate, there is more than one type of fast, and bear in mind that fasting does not always mean eating absolutely nothing at all, as you will soon understand. But first, let's talk about a type of fast whereby you eat just fruits. Technically speaking, this is not a demanding type of fast, but it is still remarkably beneficial and can produce positive results. This is something you can complete for a week, for example, and may comprise of a healthy fruit serving maybe twice per day. But do consider buying naturally grown fruits so you miss out on all the great pesticides and additional chemicals.

The liquid fast is one type of fast that we have seen mentioned more often than others. There exists a water only fast, however we have to tell you that you need to exercise extreme caution and perhaps even consult with your doctor before you accomplish it. You must be certain that you are free of any disorders that may become aggravated by a strict water only fast. The juice fast is yet one more that does not seem as difficult as the water only, and our feeling is that quite a few persons have used this method. You should stay away from any juice that has unnatural sweetners and refined sugar in them.

You can learn a lot more about this very old but powerful method of cleansing your body and removing extra weight. For example, you need to do some important preparation prior to starting any fast. Basically, you want to ease yourself into it and also out of the fast. This is all about preventing physical troubles that could make you uncomfortable when you begin or finish a fast.

A Farm On The MOVE!

Posted in

Wheeew, a rainy day, while slowing us up outdoors, is allowing a minute of respite for us to turn back and catch up with the office work... and we have wanted to share the story of how Growing Lots, along with a great bunch of fellow urban farmers managed to move a farm in one day.  It truly was a magical thing to behold.  :-)

Why in the world would you move a farm?  Well, that is in part the transitory nature of urban agriculture as it currently stands.  We have certainly not been the first urban agriculture site to lose its tenuous grip on the land, and we most certainly won't be the last.  The parking lot Growing Lots used as its inaugural site last year was slated for demolition starting in September of 2011 as the city re-engineers 22nd St to connect with Cedar Ave below.  However, as all work plans go, the timeline was suddenly bumped up to mid-summer, which obviously became a no-go for operating a farm and serving our CSA members.  So in mid-April, we got the word and a forced relocation plan was immediately put into place.

Growing Lots has been working closely with Seward Redesign over the course of the last two years, and they quickly suggested another parking lot just down the street where we could set up a new farm.  Here is a before shot of the farm site:
13.jpg

How does one go about moving a farm??  Well, here are the basic ingredients:

1 - Get some help... Urban Farmers are amazing folks and they showed up in force!

12(1).jpg    18(1).jpg     dmove4.jpg

2 - Find someone with a BIG truck and a Bobcat... in this case it was Russ 'Rooster' Henry of Giving Tree Gardens who saved the day with his truck and the amazing landscapers next door (Field Outdoor Spaces, Inc) who supplied the Bobcat....

dmove3.jpg

3 - Then get a lot of helping hands with shovels to schlep that soil from one lot to the next while others form beds:

dmove7.jpg         16.jpg

4 - And a farm is more than soil alone, so we can't deny the deconstruction and hauling in the mighty red beast!

dmove6.jpg     dmove5.jpg

So there was a lot more work that pictures don't capture, and their was indeed a lot of fun to be had (these urban farmers are a rowdy bunch!).. but that is the basic recipe for moving a farm down the road!

Where are things standing now?  Well, unfortunately we did lose our spinach and pea crop because they were planted before the news of the move had arrived.  However, Nature in all her crafty wisdom and wry sense of humor, has shown us that you can't keep a good pea down!  We have peas popping up all over the new farm, and some of them have sent their shoots up 6 + inches.. it's quite amazing!!

So what is in the ground and growing?  Well, we have lettuces, arugula, cilantro, radishes, carrots, beets, rainbow chard, kale, collards, broccoli, romanesco cauliflower, brussels sprouts, cabbages and the last of our spinach seeds.

In close, here are some finishing images of the farm, and where it is at now....

stayed tuned for news on the chicken coop and imminent chicken arrival!!

Ways To Get Rid Of Telemarketers

Posted in Labels: , ,

12 ways to get rid of Telemarketers

1. If they want to loan you money,
tell them you just filed for bankruptcy and
you could sure use some money.

Ask, "How long can I keep it?
Do I have to ever pay it back,
or is it like the other money I borrowed before my bankruptcy?"

2. If you get one of those pushy people who won't shut up,
just listen to their sales pitch.

When they try to close the sale,
tell them that you'll need to go get your credit card.
Then, just set the phone down and go do laundry,
shopping or whatever.

See how long that commission based scum waits
for you to get your credit card.

3. If they start out with, "How are you today?"
say, "Why do you want to know?"
Or you can say, "I'm so glad you asked,
because no one seems to care these days and
I have all these problems,
my sciatica is acting up,
my eyelashes are sore,
my dog just died...."

When they try to get back to the sales process,
just continue on with telling about your problems.

4. If the person says he's Joe Doe from the ABC Company,
ask him to spell his name,
then ask him to spell the company name,
then ask where it is located.

Continue asking personal questions or
questions about the company for as long as necessary.

5. This one works better if you are male:
Telemarketer: "Hi, my name is Julie and I'm with Dodger & Peck Services....
You: "Hang on a second."
(few seconds pause)
"Okay, (in a really husky voice) "what are you wearing?"

6. Crying out, in well-simulated tones of pleasure and surprise,
"Julie!! Is this really you?
I can't believe it! Julie, how have you BEEN?"
Hopefully, this will give Julie a few brief moments of terror
as she tries to figure out where the heck she could know you from.

7. Say, "No," over and over.
Be sure to vary the sound of each no,
and keep an even tempo even as they're trying to speak.
This is the most fun if you can keep going until they hang up.

8. If MCI calls trying to get you to sign up with their Family and Friends plan,
reply, in as sinister a voice as you can muster,
"I don't have any friends...would you be my friend?"

9. If they clean rugs: "Can you get blood out, you can?
Well, how about goat blood or HUMAN blood -
chicken blood too?"

10. Let the person go through their spiel, providing minimal but necessary feedback in the form of an occasional "Uh-huh, really, or, "That's fascinating."

Finally, when they ask you to buy, ask them to marry you. They get all flustered, but just tell them you couldn't give your credit card number to someone who's a complete stranger.

11. Tell them you work for the same company they work for.
Example: Telemarketer: "This is Bill from Widget & Associates."
You: "Widget & Associates!! Hey I work for them too.
Where are you calling from?"

Telemarketer: "Uh, Dallas, Texas."
You: "Great, they have a group there too?
How's business/the weather?
Too bad the company has a policy against selling to employees! Oh well, see ya."

12. Tell the Telemarketer you are busy and
if they will give you their phone number you will call them back.

If they say they are not allowed to give out their number,
then ask them for their home number and
tell them you will call them at home
(this is usually the most effective method of getting rid of Telemarketers).

Sony mum on details about ongoing PlayStation Network outage

PlayStation Network users are still waiting for an extra life.
Five days after a hacker invaded Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation Network resulting in a lengthy outage, the video game giant has yet to offer a comprehensive explanation.
PlayStation internet services went offline on Wednesday and have remained down.
In several public statements, with one as recent as Monday, Sony has said the persistent downtime was due to an "external intrusion," but has not provided a target date for when services will return. Sony previously said it was rebuilding its framework to ensure proper security measures are put in place.
"Unfortunately, I don't have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time," PlayStation spokesman Patrick Seybold said in a statement on Monday. "As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process, and we're working to get them back online quickly."
The PlayStation Network is a free utility that lets gamers communicate and play with each other, as well as download games and movies. Sony also offers subscription programs called PlayStation Plus, which provides access to exclusive games, and Qriocity, which offers on-demand music and movies over the internet. Those services also remain unavailable.
A Sony spokesman in Tokyo, where the company is headquartered, said investigations haven't uncovered whether the intruders gained access to personal information or credit card numbers, according to a report from technology news service IDG. The spokesman reportedly said Sony would contact those affected if investigators discover that info was leaked.
CNN's request for comment was not returned by a Sony spokeswoman.
The network failure was apparently more severe than originally thought. Sony released a statement on Thursday saying, "It may be a full day or two before we're able to get the service completely back up and running."

Gamers are livid. The timing is especially frustrating because it comes on the heels of three blockbuster launches for the PlayStation 3.
Sony's "SOCOM 4" is the latest in a third-person shooter series about Navy SEAL operatives, which heavily promotes its online-play component. The new "Mortal Kombat" game is also supposed to let gamers play online. "Portal 2," the critically acclaimed shooter-puzzle game, debuted alongside a much-anticipated game-download service called Steam. All these launched in the United States on Tuesday, one day before the outage.
